Technical Architect

Penrose

We are a major player in the infrastructure, construction and building industry in New Zealand with a strong drive to mature our operation to the next level. We started a customer experience programme of work for both instore and online customers, and need to evolve our delivery platform to support this programme. Our technical setting is characterised by bespoke systems, and a high degree of complexity of front and back end integration.

While there will be a strong need for technical leadership and theoretical input, there will be down times during which the role becomes hands-on with regards to providing day-to-day technical / architecture input for the direction of the solution.

This role is located in Penrose, however there will be a requirement to travel to the Project Team based in Takapuna from time to time.

About the role - key responsibilities

There are two key dimensions to this role: project technical architecture leadership and high-level enterprise architecture.

  • Technical project leadership:
    • builds a holistic view of our company's strategy, processes, information, and information technology assets, and takes this knowledge and ensures that the business mission, strategy, and processes of our IT strategy are aligned.
    • represents the interest of the company through collaboration across teams (at times "silos") within the company and across their delivery and supporting partners by taking on the responsibility for the technical quality and successful delivery.

  • High-level enterprise architecture:
    • uses multiple architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of our company will be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile, and adaptable manner.
    • drives common approaches and exposes information assets and processes across the enterprise with the goal to deliver an architecture that supports the most efficient and secure IT environment meeting our company's business needs.

Required attributes:

  • Experience in architecting, designing and programming applications on the enterprise and solution architecture levels, and providing software/business/marketing techno-functional expertise,
  • Agile experience in closely collaborating with development teams to provide direction, creating clear, concise and living design documents,
  • Experience in legacy application overhaul / application modernisation,
  • Experience in providing consistent technical direction and guidance on architecture, design review, and infrastructure,
  • Experience in modelling and/or information architecture,
  • Experience in conducting research and development on emerging trends and technologies, and investigating solution options within software / business processes for technical team
  • Great communicator, facilitator, collaborator and influencer
  • Pragmatic in understanding that the best business outcome is not always the perfect technical solution.
